Regenerative Communities

2024

Cliff Gardens |

A site of significant importance, located centrally on the coast of the Felixstowe Conservation Area.

Introduction

The scheme reimagines community living through a sustainable, multi-generational co-housing strategy, promoting wellbeing through quiet and green spaces. Private dwellings, short-term accommodation, and shared communal spaces support young mothers seeking safety, comfort, and connection, empowering residents to live independently while engaging collectively.

Felixstowe

CO-HOUSING

Proposal

The Felixstowe Co-housing proposal responds to the needs of young mothers seeking safety, comfort, and community. The design consists of a series of vertically organised row houses where private spaces sit above shared terraces, gardens, and social spaces. This spatial hierarchy allows residents to control their level of interaction and privacy, while maintaining a strong sense of belonging. Orientated to capture the morning and evening sunlight, the homes integrate passive design strategies such as cross ventilation and solar energy through the plant nursery corridor. The proposal maintains Felixstowe’s existing character while fostering collective security and connection.
